Small of stature but with a heart as big as Texas, Pete has taken Magic Moments by storm. He is a dynamic little guy (about 12 hands tall) who only joined our barn a few months ago, and already, he is a very popular therapy horse. He is cool under pressure, likes people, and is quick to catch on to his new job. Magic Moments purchased the Haflinger gelding in October 2003. Haflingers are an Austrian breed that is a cross between a Draught horse and a small German breed. They have the strength of a full-size Draught horse and can carry adults as easily as children, and because they are small in size, they are perfect therapeutic riding mounts. Pete's striking appearance gets everyone's attention! Since he is only eleven years old, we hope to have the benefit of Pete's wonderful, gentle personality for many years to come.

The Haflinger as it is known today really began in 1874 with the birth of the stallion 249 Folie, a colt by the half-Arabian 133 El Bedavi XXII and out of a refined Tyrolean mare. 249 Folie became the first registered Haflinger stallion and the patriarch of the race. They were brought to America in 1958.
