He started his job with us on our first night, Dec. 3, 1998 and is still going strong! Shadow is truly in a class of his own as a therapy horse. Jeanne Brummet, Director of MMRT purchased Shadow at the age of 5 yrs. He spent the next 19 years with the Brummet family, and his horsy friends Strawberry, Whiskey and Magic. He traveled with the family to Southern Missouri in 1997. Shadow has proven to be well worth the $250 originally spent to buy him. He has a remarkable track record with his riding therapy students. Over the past 5 years, he has saved a little boy from spinal surgery, helped a mentally disabled man overcome depression and begin to talk again, helped an autistic man find words and a volunteer job, and helped a stroke victim improve her balance so she could begin to live a normal life again. Maybe the most amazing thing about Shadow is that he seems to have a genuine concern for his riders. Time and again, he has reached out to them and drawn them out with his gentle encouragement.
